David Estlund’s Two Roles for Hopeless Normative Theories

After a long abstinence from hc political theory, I took up David Estlund’s Democratic Authority. I struggled with his writing style at first, forgetting how winding the theory road can be, but as pages went by I got used to it. The Baby Blue Terrorist

The Good Terrorist is a wonderful novel by Doris Lessing about a girl with burning desire to go beyond the simple, meaningless existence by engaging in class warfare which turns out to be a sad combination of picketing and administrative struggle over squatter rights (tiny spoiler: with some actual petty warfare in the end). The motherly care she gives to her comrades reminds me of some time that existed before the events taking place in Bob Dylan’s It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue, and the inability of the song’s addressee to see her fosterlings for what they are.

No great insight here, just a small, nice, irresistible link that I somehow see and enjoy.
